Austin Country Club golf courseAustin Country Club, Austin’s oldest country club, will host the World Golf Championships-Dell Match Play starting in 2016 and through 2019. The events will be televised by NBC and Golf Channel and will be set against one of Austin’s most iconic landmarks: the Pennybacker Bridge.

The course was designed by Pete Dye and opened in 1984 with a mix of Pennybacker Bridge views and hill country terrain. Organizers expect the event to have a positive impact on Austin’s reputation. According to a KXAN article, Austin Country Club president James Cahill said, “The economic and charitable impact will benefit the community, as well as give great exposure to Austin as one of the best places to host world-wide events.”

The golf course is in the middle of a restoration project, but the work will be completed by Fall, in time for the first event.
