The Trail Foundation Seeks Artists for Floating Wetlands Project on Lady Bird Lake

January 31, 2022by Brian Talley

Are you an artist who likes to work with natural mediums? The Trail Foundation is looking for artists, designers, and other creatives for a public art project along the Butler Hike-and-Bike Trail on Lady Bird Lake. Called “Common Waters”, the project will merge artistic components with ecological function. Three artists will be chosen and paid to collaborate on the design and installation of artistic floating wetlands.

Artists may have visual, literary, spoken word, music, sound design, performance, dance, textile, and environmental arts backgrounds (among others); may be environmental, fashion, graphic, industrial, and other designers; and/or may present creative cultural traditions.

The public art project is part of the Trail’s Arts + Culture Plan and is in conjunction with Austin Parks and Recreation and City of Austin Art in Public Places. The 10-mile Butler Trail has almost five million visits a year. Applications for the project are due February 4, 2022.
